We did it – we splashed out and bought a video camera to record moments in our family life. We have been talking about it for a while but put it off until we really needed to make it happen – which is now.

I didn’t want to get a cheap and nasty one nor did I want one that copied straight to DVD – I wanted a big hard drive so I could shoot heaps of footage, transfer it to the computer and then edit the best bits together for a better result.

A particular store (Hint: ‘You want it, you got it’ and ‘You got me!’) was having a bit of a sale on them so I refreshed my research and found what would be a good option for us, we ended up getting one with a 40GB HDD and Full HD. The full HD bit is great for the future but we can’t take full advantage of it just yet as we don’t have a Blu-Ray player. We can still make nice DVD quality movies for now and save the original HD files on my hard drive, making HD movies down the track when our technology is all in sync a little better.

Tech-speak aside, we now have a beautiful little unit with which to record all our precious moments. Much to the wife’s utter delight, I have already begun filming around the house in an effort to capture how life is in the lead-up to baby coming along. I’d love it if that kind of stuff was around when my parents were having me, so I’m not fussed by being daggy in some video diary entries at all, quite the contrary in fact!
