i hated the sensitive wipes.. they smell really odd, almost like playdoh. My twins have sensitive skin and they didnt irritate them, they just didn't do the job good and smelt funny. I LOVE Huggies Thick-n-Clean. They are not soggy but have a lot of texture to really grab the poopies.. i found the pampers ones just smeared it around a lot and i had to use a lot more wipes.. i would suggest getting a variety and then deciding which ones you like.. dont buy to much of one kind without know if you like it

My two favourite jokes has been classed as Dad jokes. I'll repeat my favourite for you.

"Mussolini and the Trains"
Back in the 1930's, when Mussolini was in power in Facist Italy, the western nations placed Italy under a trade embargo, preventing (amongst other things) the sale of coal to the country. This crippled the trains more than any other form of transport.

But Italy was rather technological, and discovered that a special blend of herbs could be used as a fuel, in what would be known as a biodiesel today. It was brilliant, the only drawback was that it was a bit on the nose. So the researchers in Italy, under Mussolini's command, discovered that by taking all but one of the herbs out of the blend, it didn't smell.

The people of Italy rejoiced! They had their trains fully functional again. From then on in, it was said that Mussolini had made the trains run on Thyme."

Memories are a very powerful weapon / tool. If you think too much of them, then you can become a slave to them! I too have memories from my childhood. Not all good ones like you have with your poppy, but rather ones which tormented me for a very long time. I have some rippers of my dad,(your pop). Horse rides on his plaster cast, lots of bottles of coke when he worked there. I remember when things must have been so tight for my parents that when dad's shoes were wearing out, he would cut up some cardboard & put that for the sole. The smell of the newly mown lawn, followed by the waft of B&H ciggies, then followed by the smell of newly opened bottle of beer. And all this wrapped up in the smell of my dad. No mea culpa required.

Welcome Marco!

Fingers crossed that all goes well for you and N for the arrival of #2... keep me posted.

Your point about driving is a good one, and I used to drive to work when I worked on the same side of the city that I live and it saved me an hour a day. Now it's much of a muchness, and considerably cheaper on the train so I take that.

As the years go by I'll likely return to driving so I have a bit more flexibility.

I'm very much in the same boat myself. We have a two and a half year old boy and a second baby due literally any day now. At the same time, my workload looks like increasing very soon - but on the other hand, my office will shortly relocate which will actually put it closer to home in terms of distance (but with no real benefit in terms of travel time).

Like you, I am out the door at 7:15 or so most mornings, and get home at 6pm if I'm lucky, more commonly 6:30. And again, like you, on most nights I have other work that I do after bath and bedtime.

From where I sit, the best solution I've been able to come up with is to actually drive to work after the move. Not particularly planet-friendly and completely at odds with my public transport philosophy...but it will buy me another hour a day at home.

Well thanks for making me cry on a Friday night. I know this happened a while back now...I actually clicked on your latest post via twitter. Then found this via the sidebar topic thingy.
So now it's bed time and I've got tears streaming down my face!
Thanks for sharing this story it is so awesome to read.
Oh and btw you did make me laugh too- when you were waiting for scan entry (you yelling out about your wife going to toilet and you were husband...you going red again ;))

UPDATE:

Clearly I’ve been unable to keep my pledge – even for one week. Whilst not excusing things, it’s an indication of how busy things are at present. Having said that, if I had kept my pledge and found a couple of hours a week to keep updating my notes here, I’d be almost up to date!

I’m revising my pledge down to 2 posts per week and see how that goes. If in a month I have kept to that, I’ll push myself to the 3 originally intended.

I’ll get there one day…

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the feedback! Each of these posts is a personal recollection, so if you do want to reproduce any of them, we can discuss the best way to do that. Drop me an email and we'll sort something out.

Cheers.
