The Dad Joke gene strikes again

It’s happened again – I was just hanging around and being normal, when the dad joke gene kicked in and I let another doozy out.

It wasn’t intentional… really. Here’s what happened:

My wife and I were putting Leo to bed, when she started talking about what they were doing tomorrow.  E’lise mentioned to Leo that we are out of bananas (his favourite fruit) and that he wouldn’t be able to have one in the morning while he watched Bananas in Pyjamas (his favourite show), but he could have strawberries instead.

And this is when it hit me, and pushed itself out.  I said, “If you can’t have a banana while watching bananas, maybe you could have some strawberries while watching Strawberries in Pyjamas”.

The wife started at me with a look of shame in her eyes.  Leo didn’t respond.

A sign of things to come, I suspect!

My two favourite jokes has been classed as Dad jokes. I’ll repeat my favourite for you.

    “Mussolini and the Trains”
Back in the 1930′s, when Mussolini was in power in Facist Italy, the western nations placed Italy under a trade embargo, preventing (amongst other things) the sale of coal to the country. This crippled the trains more than any other form of transport.

But Italy was rather technological, and discovered that a special blend of herbs could be used as a fuel, in what would be known as a biodiesel today. It was brilliant, the only drawback was that it was a bit on the nose. So the researchers in Italy, under Mussolini’s command, discovered that by taking all but one of the herbs out of the blend, it didn’t smell.

The people of Italy rejoiced! They had their trains fully functional again. From then on in, it was said that Mussolini had made the trains run on Thyme.”
