Memories are a very powerful weapon / tool. If you think too much of them, then you can become a slave to them! I too have memories from my childhood. Not all good ones like you have with your poppy, but rather ones which tormented me for a very long time. I have some rippers of my dad,(your pop). Horse rides on his plaster cast, lots of bottles of coke when he worked there. I remember when things must have been so tight for my parents that when dad's shoes were wearing out, he would cut up some cardboard & put that for the sole. The smell of the newly mown lawn, followed by the waft of B&H ciggies, then followed by the smell of newly opened bottle of beer. And all this wrapped up in the smell of my dad. No mea culpa required.

UPDATE:

Clearly I’ve been unable to keep my pledge – even for one week. Whilst not excusing things, it’s an indication of how busy things are at present. Having said that, if I had kept my pledge and found a couple of hours a week to keep updating my notes here, I’d be almost up to date!

I’m revising my pledge down to 2 posts per week and see how that goes. If in a month I have kept to that, I’ll push myself to the 3 originally intended.

I’ll get there one day…
