Visiting Grandma’s house

We had a bit of a milestone this weekend – our boy’s first trip out of town! We took him up to northeast Victoria to my home town, to spend the weekend with his grandma, my mother.

We headed up the Friday after work and came back on the Monday. Saturday afternoon saw a few of Grandma’s friends come over and meet the boy. My mother was in her element, glowing as she showed off her first grandchild. It was pretty nice seeing her so happy and so proud, with the next generation of her family starting to grow.

On Sunday we headed to a nearby town to visit my wife’s Aunty, who is a former work colleague of mine and actually introduced me and my wife. Naturally, she loved our boy and was quite proud of what she’d helped create (in a way)!

We all had a wonderful time, relaxing and enjoying the country air and quieter surrounds. It was so nice in fact, that it made me wonder a little about raising our family in the country as opposed to the city. I never thought I’d think of moving somewhere non-metropolitan again, but a smaller, quieter town does have a lot of upside.

Food for thought.
