The family home

A family home

We have moved into a bigger house

We have just finished making the biggest adjustment to our lives in readiness for parenthood – we have moved into a proper house.

We have spent the past two and a half years renting a lovely little unit which was really quite nice – brand new, 3 bedroom, internal courtyard, decent living area and kitchen and a spare room plus a study. It was perfect for just the two of us and we even had two of my brothers stay for a month or so at different times. It just wasn’t going to be the best place for a child though, as to walk from the lounge to the kitchen or our room, we would have had to go down the hallway and past the baby’s room. The bedrooms weren’t overly big either, so knowing we’d have a whole bunch of new stuff for the baby, we could see we were going to be a little squashed for room.

So we bit the bullet and looked around. We found a beautiful place, brand new and ready for tenants. I should point out at this point that we are still saving up a deposit for a house and will be for another 12-18 months or so, which we’re fine with given the interest rates at the moment. No dramas in renting for now, it’s not an issue for us.

The new place is only about 5 minutes down the road so we are still essentially in the area we’d like to make a bit of a home in. We now have 4 bedrooms, the master having an ensuite and walk-in robe. The rooms are quite separate from the living areas so we won’t be tip-toeing around like idiots. The yard is also 3-4 times the size which is good for our little pug, George, and depending on how long we are here, will be good to play around with a kid in.

We have already started setting up baby’s room, though a cot is still on the ‘To Get’ list at this stage and there is also a small set of drawers and a tallboy still to go in, though I need to give them a paint beforehand so they are in the garage.

This home has a great family vibe about it, I think we’re going to be pretty happy here while we are.
