We have decided on a name, we were pretty definite on a boy’s name anyway and seeing him as we did made it feel like it was right.

And the gender is…

The previous two days passed so slowly, I thought they were never going to end. Nights of little sleep certified my excitement and impatience, and a low tolerance of anything non-baby was its manifestation.

We left nice and early, getting over to Heidelberg a good hour before our appointment time. We filled some time by getting a coffee and a bite to eat at the nearby McDonalds; a lot of people and families have no doubt done the same thing at one time or other.

Things that make it all the more real

I think we’re at a point in the pregnancy where it’s a bit quieter than at other times. By this I mean we’ve had our first ultrasound, my wife hasn’t got a massive belly yet, it’s four weeks until our second scan and finding out the gender, we can’t organise very much just yet as knowing our baby’s sex will make it easier, etc etc.

Given all of this, at times it’s almost like the pregnancy is a bit like thinking about Christmas in February – you know it’ll happen one day but it seems like a long time away yet.

There are things though that make me realise how close we really are to having our first child. Yesterday, for instance, I purchased our first lot of nappies!

It’s (almost) introduction time

Today is Wednesday the 16th of April. In two more sleeps we have our 20-week ultrasound, the big one where we get a good idea of how the baby is coming along, and also where we find out the gender!

The first flutter

My wife felt the baby move for the first time last night! She said it was just a feint flutter where the baby is, like a little twitch of muscle.

I’m sure it must have been a special moment for her, that first sensation of knowing she’s carrying a child.

I can’t wait until it makes bigger movement that I can feel!
